Brain plasticity, also known as neuroplasticity, refers to the brain’s ability to change and adapt throughout life by forming new connections between neurons.
This flexibility explains how we learn new skills, recover after brain injury, and adapt to changing environments. For example, musicians often develop stronger brain areas for auditory processing, and stroke patients can sometimes “rewire” their brains to regain lost functions.
Plasticity is most substantial in childhood but continues into adulthood. Experiences, practice, and even mindset play a role in shaping the brain. This concept has shifted the view of the brain from being fixed to being a dynamic organ that evolves with experience.
