Collectivist cultures emphasise group harmony, community, and interdependence over individual goals. In such cultures, people often define themselves by their relationships and social roles rather than by personal achievements.
For example, decisions about career or marriage may be made with the family’s needs in mind rather than just personal preference. Respect for authority, cooperation, and loyalty to the group are highly valued.
Many Asian, African, and Latin American societies are described as collectivist, in contrast to Western cultures that emphasise individualism. Neither approach is “better”—they reflect different ways of organising social life and shaping identity.
