Conformity is the act of adjusting our behaviour or opinions to match those of a group. It often happens because of pressure—real or imagined—to fit in or avoid rejection.
Classic experiments by Solomon Asch demonstrated that people sometimes provide incorrect answers to conform to others. Conformity can have positive effects (such as following social norms like queuing politely), but it can also lead to harmful group behaviours when individuals silence their own judgment.
