The expectancy model (Vroom’s theory) explains motivation as a product of three factors:
Expectancy – belief that effort leads to performance,
Instrumentality – belief that performance leads to rewards,
Valence – value placed on the rewards.
When all three are strong, motivation is high. This model is widely used in workplace psychology to design effective incentives and rewards.
