Own-group preference describes the tendency to favour people from our own group—whether based on nationality, culture, religion, or other identity markers. This preference often manifests as trust, loyalty, or a positive evaluation of ingroup members, while outsiders may be treated with suspicion or bias. While it fosters solidarity, it can also contribute to prejudice and social division.
